Wednesday Nite Lo
Stress Results
This is the perfect
opportunity for non-racers and potential racers to get their
feet wet and see how their boat speed stacks up against others
without the stress of formal races. Sailing instructions
and sign-in sheet will be on or near the dockbox at slip F1 on
Wednesday evenings. You may start anytime after 5:30 and you
keep your own time.

Ok it looked stormy, then is looked like there would be no wind, then it settled down to be one of the nicest evenings of the summer. Good wind, nice moon, and good folks on the boat, it don't get better. Endeavour Ericson 34T made her first Low stress appearance with a finish time of 117.55 minutes and since no one else finished, Bruce and the divine Ms T decided to bail before the wind filled in, I win the $4 and have a target of 117.55

Lets talk about the way we do things. For a new racer to get a target time we take the average of all racers for that race day. When we only have 2 races this really screws it up but we will plow forward. Bruce on his beautifully crewed Capri 22 finished with a time of 119.2 minutes. New racer James Robertson on the really sweet looking Cal 28 finished in 155.25 minutes.
Sooooo the new target time for the Cal is 137.23 with a finish % of 113.13. Bruce was 120.4% of target. The Cal wins $4 bucks.

This is a most wonderful day, my birthday, so I didn't get to do what I wanted to do (sail) I went to dinner with my family. Hey it was all good. We had 3 racers doing a short course, Premonition finished in 120.2 minutes and because of his obvious gimmee rating Doug gets first. Second was Mr. Bruce on the fast Capri 22 finishing in 69.85 minutes. Third place goes to Encanto with a time of 84.23 minutes. Mr. Christianson wins the 6 bucks from this week and 4 bucks from the week before.

Two boats signed up, Keith's San Juan 28, and Mr. Christianson's (I love saying that) Cat 28 both DNF. I think they met in the middle of the lake and had cocktails. 4 bucks carried over

Missing Wed Nite Racers,
Now I know how you keep it low stress, you don’t show up.
Premonition crossed the start line as the wind started to build from the SE at 6:30pm and finished the marina to marina round trip in 1 hr 47 min and 16 sec. I believe that was the best corrected time and best overall for the evening, especially since Premonition was the only boat to race.
Some former crew members waiting on the dock when we returned, hinted about sharing in some of the winnings ($ 27 !) from the last two Wed nite Low Stress races. So, my Regatta crew and I went to the Oasis with a thick wad of $ 1’s prepared to buy a round, but the other crews didn’t show up. They must have been admiring the big Ericson in the parking lot, a weird place for a boat, then lost their way to the Oasis. Oh well, next week my winnings for tonight ($ 2) will go for the first round.

Ok, now that I am fully entrenched as the Worst Ever Race Chair (werc) I can now also claim to be Worst Ever Wednesday Night Low Stress Guy (wewnlsg) hmm sounds German.
Results: What a great night, good wind, not to hot, if you weren't out there you are really missing out. We had 8 boats signed up, the most this year, and the winner was......tell ya later, 8th place was JimN' I Cat 30 with a time of 175.29 minutes @144%.
7th went to Cat 28 5 O'clock Something or Other, must have been watching a DVD on the flat panel, 158 minutes @ 127.41%.
6th was a new player, Mr. Hodgson on the MacGregor. Since this was the Macs first race she was awarded the average %, giving him a target time of 126 minutes. The actual time was 150 minutes @118.7%. Welcome!
5th place was Dr. Bruce on that fast Capri 22 (does this boat have a name?) with a finish time of 114.48 minutes for 115.64%. I'm telling you Bruce if you could get Mike to quit Creeping out the lovely Ms T the boat would go faster.
4th place goes to the up and coming YYY with Donny and DaKnee on board, I guess honey was driving cause Donny can't get the boat going that fast, time of 135.001 minutes @ 114.4%.
3rd was a bunch of beer sodden San Juan Sailors and one Ericson owner, haven't sailed her yet, (Did I tell You "Amazing Grace" sold, see all that shameless advertising worked) staggered down the course for 110.002 minutes @113.4% of target. But we did a head sail change under way(excuses, excuses, excuses).
2nd place was Terra (more money than I'll ever have) Nova HR 34 with, I'm sure, a paid professional crew. Butch had a time of 101.22 minutes @108.8% of target.
Last, or 1st (now I'm confused...wewnlsg) was The big rig Cat 28 Premo ammunition, ok Doug you get the 16 bucks plus the money from the week before. Doug's masterful finish time was 128.5 minutes and a target % of 106.91. Great job.
The real winners were all who got out there and played.

Man, if this is the shape of things to come.....3 boats showed up, signed up, raced, had a wonderful evening on the lake. I don't understand. Where are all the sailors? I hope more than 3 boats show up for the 25/50 Saturday.
Leaving the dock first last night was Steve and crew on Starlight Express. The breeze at 5:30 was 10 to 15 with a wonderful temperature. Steve finished with a time of 126 min. and 53 seconds 125.5% for third place.
Next to go was Mr. Ford and crew on Happy Ours, he tried to start with a ripped head sail, had to change sails and restart so Joy Ride was actually 2nd to start. Thanks Mafia for noticing our ripped sail. Keith finished in 1st place with a finish time of 97 minutes and 45 sec. for 116.24%. Happy Ours also towed a power boat to the gas dock under sail after the race, the kids on the power boat (4 and a 3 month old baby) had beer on board, but no life jackets and obviously not gas.
As mentioned Joy ride started second with a crew of banana plant stealing, ripped sail noticing, extra tacking sailors on board. Things got a little light by the time the 1 hour cruise was over soooo Dan had a finish time of 156 minutes 7 seconds for 118.6% for second place. The banana plants disappeared while we were on the lake, it seems a boat from the Dark Side absconded them. Ya just can't turn your back.
See You All Saturday

Wednesday night with a nice breeze blowing and only 4 intrepid sailors challenged the bridge and back low stress course. I figured after the great turn out by our sailors in the May Day Regatta we would have 40 or 50 boats out on a wonderful night like last night (ok, ok, maybe 10 boats).
Advertisement: Amazing Grace is still for sale, call Bob. Lift will be sold separately for $1500. SHAMELESS, SHAMELESS!
Results: Finishing 4th was Encanto after I called Mario and Esther to verify the time written down, 110 min 42 sec. Mario said that last beer must have clouded his penmanship cause the real time was 2 hrs 10 minutes 42 sec. or 130 min 42 sec. for 130.8% of target. In 1958.......
Finishing 3rd was the lovely Teresa, the lovely Bruce, and the not so lovely, but willing, Mike, on the Capri 22 flying a pretty red spinnaker with a finish time of 116 minutes 1 sec. for 117% of target. They started last in lighter air or they would probably have won.
The second boat to leave the dock and the first to finish was Terra Nova with the ONE AND ONLY Guatemala Mafia crewing and running down the little black boat (which is for sale)(still shameless) then flying up to the bridge leaving the little black boat, that is for sale, about a mile behind. But Butch did not set his gigantic spinnaker (have you ever noticed that the smaller guys always have the biggest sails?) and the black boat (which is ......oh never mind!) did set his normal sized spinnaker and DAMNED NEAR but not quite caught him. Mr. HR34, big sails, mafia laden, beautiful boat, finished 2nd at 107min 41 sec. for 115.8% PLEASE NOTE THE DECIMAL PLACE.
The winner this week of $8.00 (thank god I won cause I was hungry after the race and stopped at Mickey D's and spent the money) was the black boat
Amazing Grace(..... .. ... ....) subliminal, eh? Bob, Keith, Chris, and Bill, talk about representing a boat line (San Juans), sailed to a win with a time of 114 minutes 54 seconds for 115.015015015% of target. I was going to share the winnings but they drank 15 bucks worth of rum back at the dock.
Oh well, it was a beautiful night and Joy Ride didn't kick my butt, all is good.
Bob, NWERC(finally paid my dues) HMMHC
ps: I was really proud of all the boats that raced last week end, it was a great regatta!

All who sailed last night were treated to excellent winds and one of the first "soft southern nights" of summer, no heaters,or fleece, what a night!! Nine boats signed up, eight boats paid???? Hey Guys if you sign up pay or put in an IOU, at least Gus used to get old cigars for payment. I counted 13 sails on the lake with the new owners of the Hunter 29.5 hauling the mail up the lake, ya'all need to sign up.
OK,OK results:
Finishing second, with a time of 101min., 101% "Amazing Grace" (which is for sale call 214-333-4543). Shameless, huh?
Finishing third, big bad Butch and highly trained regatta team at 103.3 min, 111%, Terrrrrra Novvvvva.
Finishing fourth, Catalina 28 with Mr. Christianson at the helm ,126 min. with a newly established target of 120 for 105%.
Fifth was the dark side boat "Soulshine" with professional San Juan sailors Chris, Keith, and Bill on board, 118 min, 106%.
Sixth is double roller furling, flat screen watching, margarita making, stereo blasting "Five O'clock something or other" new Cat 28 with Steve and B....uh...er...Tami at 132 min., 106%.
Seventh was the J-27 solo sailing Spencer Farrington with the fastest time of 91.5 min., 108%.
Steve Raye and the Petersons did not give a finish time, I think I noticed Papa with a whip in hand getting the clan ready for May Day, racing sails flying and spin almost in trim.
Oh yeah the winners of the $16 bucks (you don't expect me to make up the missing money do you?) Dan with the crew of Encanto, the Guatemala Mafia and some nice looking unnamed deck candy
Cat 28 JOY RIDE congratulations, great job, wonderful sailing etc., etc., etc. with a winning time of 114 min., 96.12%. The only boat to better their target time. (the small print is just petty jealousy, I'll get over it) Great Sailing!!!!!

Our first Wednesday Night Race 2005 had 6 noble racers but at least 12 sails were noted on the lake. The breeze on the lake was ripe to beat target times if the boat was well sailed. Unfortunately no one beat their target, but what was interesting was how close the finish %'s were. A credit to Papa Gus's genius.
Results: Cam, on RAG DOLL @ 1.023% of target is 1st and that while sailing with his spin hoisted sideways, Donny and Hagen were crew. Cam noted after the race that it just did not look right but it was fast!
Mr. Ford with a crack crew of San Juan sailors is second @ 1.031%. Racing with your biggest headsail was not fast this day so multiple sail changes were made during the race, good fun.
John on the big Cal is third @ 1.049% of target and he was just cruising!!
In 1958...Mario and Queeny came in fourth @ 1.107% of target, they seemed to have lots of fun at the bridge going round and round and round the mark. Seems like Encanto had a strong attraction to the mark, penalty turn completed, who says alcohol impairs skill.
Steve Hozdulick on Five O'clock Some Where was fifth @ 1.097% of target..now you may ask since this was Steve's 1st Wednesday night race how we came up with a target. We averaged the results of all the racers with a target and gave Steve the average, this puts him right in the mix. Steve your target time is 124 minutes. Welcome...were you watching a DVD on that flat screen?
The Petersons on Fast Forward were last @1.26% of target...This presents a dilemma.
The race is designed to give all racers an opportunity to win Not based on PHRF or who has the best sails or cleanest boat bottom or the best crew. It was created so that the slowest boat on the lake could win this race. The Petersons are in reality new racers on a fast boat with a target set by Gus. Therefore, we will adjust targets both at the top and bottom of the list by adjusting the target of any boat that wins two consecutive time or is last two consecutive times. For instance if this had been Cam's second win in a row we would adjust is target to get him back in the pack. This requires him to race better to win. The same would happen at the bottom of the list.
The money goes to Cam, congratulations!!!
Lets see 30 boats out there next week.
