North Texas is blessed with mild temperatures and moderate winds all year long. In addition to the fine weather, Joe Pool Lake is oriented in both an East-West and a North-South directions insuring a perfect course regardless of wind direction or strength.
At Lake Joe Pool, we enjoy both casual and competitive racing in two different classes: PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet or buoy racing) or PCR (Performance Cruising Racing or long distance racing).
The United States Performance Handicap Racing Fleet Committee (USPHRF) is a technical rule committee of US SAILING that promotes performance handicap racing for mono-hull and multi-hull sailing yachts applying the PHRF® rule. The Committee researches, develops, and distributes guidelines for performance handicapping using systematically applied empirical methodology to determine estimates of speed potential.
Performance Handicap Racing is for the more laid back sailor who wants to improve his sailing skills. If you've been interested in learning more about sailing, this is a great venue to try the sport and see if it's for you. Contact the Race Chairman, who can place you on a boat or give you more information on the club's racing program.
